Somewhat scary & completely wonderful: spooky season books pair #1

Y’all know that I cannot read horror books; my imagination is just too good and needs no super-terrifying prompts.

I can take on scary tales in measured doses and do love mysteries, of course..

So as we count down the days till Hallowe’en, check out BooksYALove favorites to get you ghoul and ready for some frights! Today’ pair, future based on past inequities and past predicting the future:

book cover of Red Rising by Pierce Brown published by Del Reybook cover of Twelve Minutes to Midnight by Christopher Edge published by Albert WhitmanRed Rising  is like Game of Thrones  plus Hunger Games  set on Mars in a future caste-driven universe – a scary, bloody race for survival.

London mental patients uncontrollably transcribe dreadful visions of the future at Twelve Minutes to Midnight  – teen writer of supernatural tales Penelope investigates in late 1899, accompanied by a proper chaperone, of course.

Would you rather be fighting for your life in the wilderness or searching for answers in a madhouse?
