My book talk: Lauren’s impulsive drive away from Mom’s illness ends in a desolate desert town that no one can leave, filled with singular people and hills of debris – all things lost by the outer world.

Folks say the young woman must learn the town’s rules from “the Missing Man” who will help her go home, but he refuses to talk to her. “The Finder” who pushed her car out of the dust storm might give her a clue, but he mostly answers in questions.

And Claire, the little girl with the teddy bear and the knife? Well, she could help Lauren stay safer in this strange place, if the Finder can convince the Missing Man to come back to Lost…

Lost things, lost dreams, lost selves – perhaps Lauren and the Finder can bring some hope to the town of Lost before her last chance to get home vanishes into the dust storm void.

Losing your way in the desert could be fatal or fated in this evocative novel of endings which could be beginnings (first in a series, too).
