(fiction) &#8211; Australia Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia Day is tomorrow, so let&#8217;s look at some great BooksYALove by authors from Down Under.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" alt=\"book cover of Takeshita Demons by Cristy Burne published by Frances Lincoln Childrens Books\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-AFbp5zg5DOo\/UPljUKBxKyI\/AAAAAAAAKO0\/cc8rusK4Xoc\/s200\/Takeshita%2BDemons.jpg?resize=130%2C200\" width=\"130\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cristy Burne writes adventurous tales about Miku who encounters many creatures from Japanese folklore, like <i>Takeshita Demons<\/i> (<a title=\"Takeshita Demons, by Cristy Burne (fiction) \u2013 Japanese demons attack London\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2012\/02\/takeshita-demons-by-cristy-burne-fiction-japanese-demons-attack-london.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>) who followed her family to London and\u00a0 <i>The Filth-Licker<\/i> (review <a title=\"The Filth Licker, by Cristy Burne (fiction) \u2013 Japanese demons attack British school camp!\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2012\/07\/the-filth-licker-by-cristy-burne-fiction-japanese-demons-attack-british-school-camp.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) that her classmates meet up with at camp.<\/p>\n<p>Not sure if Sherryl Clark herself has heard the dead, but her character Sasha in <i>Dying to Tell Me<\/i>\u00a0 (<a title=\"D is Dying to Tell Me (fiction) \u2013 hearing the dead, dog on a mission\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2012\/04\/d-is-dying-to-tell-me-fiction-hearing-the-dead-dog-on-a-mission.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>) certainly can! Visions of blood and death in sleepy little Manna Creek at the edge of the Outback&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A being condemned to inhabit another body as camouflage, over and over; she calls herself <i>Mercy<\/i>\u00a0 (<a title=\"Mercy (fiction) \u2013 exiled from Heaven, dreams of demons, earthly evil\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2012\/03\/mercy-fiction-exiled-from-heaven-dreams-of-demons-earthly-evil.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>) in the first book of the series by Rebecca Lim. Book 2, <i>Exile<\/i>, is in my overflowing to-be-read pile and promises a few more clues about who Mercy might be and why she&#8217;s existing this way.<\/p>\n<div><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" alt=\"book cover of Butterflies by Susanne Gervay published by Kane Miller\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-l6-MM-TlnFw\/UPlkDQzq1dI\/AAAAAAAAKPE\/UMr8oJhtHn0\/s200\/butterflies-usa-med.jpg?resize=130%2C200\" width=\"130\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Only males may become Dragoneye lords, but one young woman knows she has the power to mind-link with dragons in Alison Goodman&#8217;s <i>Eon<\/i>\u00a0 (<a title=\"Eon: Dragoneye Reborn (fiction)\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2011\/12\/eon-dragoneye-reborn-fiction.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>) and must save her world in <i>Eona<\/i>\u00a0 (<a title=\"Eona (fiction)\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2012\/01\/eona-fiction.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>), both now available in paperback.<\/p>\n<p>Susanne Gervay interviewed many teen burn patients as she wrote <i>Butterflies<\/i> (<a title=\"Butterflies, by Susanne Gervay (fiction) \u2013 disfiguring scars, unbroken spirit\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2012\/01\/butterflies-by-susanne-gervay-fiction-disfiguring-scars-unbroken-spirit.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>), which follows Katherine through surgery, school worries, and her choices for the future.<\/p>\n<p>She expected snow, festivals and historic shrines, but there was no way to predict that <i>Hannah&#8217;s Winter<\/i> (<a title=\"Hannah\u2019s Winter, by Kierin Meehan (fiction) \u2013 Japanese ghosts, ancient puzzle mysteries\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2011\/12\/hannahs-winter-by-kierin-meehan-fiction-japanese-ghosts-ancient-puzzle-mysteries.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>) in Japan would include ancient evil spirits and a donut-throwing ghost! Kierin Meehan packs plenty of mystery and historical tidbits into this intriguing story.<\/p>\n<div><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" alt=\"book cover of I Lost My Mobile at the Mall by Wendy Harmer published by Kane Miller\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-7MseKjUymwA\/UPlkZLyJVbI\/AAAAAAAAKPM\/k46oaB9nNeM\/s200\/I%2BLost%2BMy%2BMobile%2Bat%2Bthe%2BMall.jpg?resize=127%2C200\" width=\"127\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Elly has such bad luck! <i>I Lost My Mobile at the Mall<\/i>, she cries to her parents, who tell her that she&#8217;s not getting another cell phone from them. Wendy Harmer ably turns her comic touch to this too-common young adult crisis (<a title=\"I Lost My Mobile at the Mall (fiction)\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2011\/11\/i-lost-my-mobile-at-the-mall-fiction.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><i>The Reformed Vampire Support Group<\/i>\u00a0 by Catherine Jinks got to the bestseller list, but I snuck it onto BooksYALove anyway. Be sure you meet this Sydney self-help group that finally has to venture out of its decades-old comfort zone to help someone else (<a title=\"Reformed Vampire Support Group, by Catherine Jinks (fiction) \u2013 ethical vampires hunt a killer\" href=\"http:\/\/booksyalove.com\/2011\/07\/reformed-vampire-support-group-by-catherine-jinks-fiction-ethical-vampires-hunt-a-killer.html\" target=\"_blank\">my review<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Mary Arrigan follows a family from Ireland&#8217;s Potato Famine to the goldfields of Australia in historical fiction of a time period that we usually don&#8217;t see.
